Sean T O’ Sullivan

Mr Sean T O`Sullivan ìs a Consultant Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeon working at Cork University Hospital and South Infirmary-Victoria University Hospital. He qualified in Medicine from University College Cork in 1989 and completed his internship at Cork University Hospital before being appointed to the Cork University Hospital Basic Surgical Training Scheme up until 1993. He was awarded fellowships of the Royal College of Surgeons of London and Ireland (taking first place in the London Examination) He was awarded the Ainsworth Travelling Fellowship to Harvard Medical School and the Brigham and Womens in 1993 and 1994. He completed major research in Burn Injuries and was awarded an MD Doctoral Degree in 1995 for this work.

Following this he continued with Plastic Surgery traing in Cork University Hospital for two years before being appointed Senior (Specialist) Rehgistrar in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in St. James`s University Hospital in Leeds from 1996-1998. He also worked at Bradford Royal Infirmary before undertaking Fellowships in Facial Plastic Surgery in The Australian Cranio Facial Unit in Adelaide Australia and at the Head Neck and Facial Unit in the Princess Alexandria Hospital in Brisbane and the Royal Brisbane Hospital Brisbane Australia.

He was appointed Consultant Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeon at Cork University Hospital and has been in post there since 1999. During this time he has been the main author in approximately fifty scientific articles and has presented widely at major national and international meetings and has been awarded a number of prestigious prizes for his work including the Sir Peter Freyer Gold Medal for surgical research, the Knoll Prize for best presentation of the European Burns Association and the Upjohn Prize for Trauma Research in Boston USA.
